Commercial acoustic barriers

Available in heights from 1.8m to 12m+, our acoustic fencing is also commonly used in schools, commercial properties, the transport sector, and even high security applications. Browse our range of commercial acoustic barriers on our security fencing website. The range includes reflective and absorptive barriers as well as UKCA marked systems for road noise reduction.

Key Features

Jakoustic® Reflective - our most popular acoustic barrier with an attractive interlocking timber board profile on both sides meets most residential and industrial requirements and is ideal for large spaces, as it reflects noise away from its flat timber profile, reducing it by up to 28dB.

Jakoustic® Absorptive - ideal for enclosed spaces, commercial and industrial applications, this acoustic barrier features interlocking timber boards on one side, with an additional layer of absorptive material contained within a special acoustic membrane on the other side, reducing noise by up to 32dB.

Jakoustic® Commercial & Highway - available in both Reflective and Absorptive variants, this is the first complete timber acoustic barrier system which can be UKCA marked as compliant with requirements of BS EN 14388:2005 relating to road traffic noise-reducing devices.

All Jakoustic® barriers feature excellent security characteristics with a completely flat face (with no horizontal rails), which makes it difficult to climb, and 34mm thick acoustic boards which are difficult to penetrate.

12K Envirofence® - a reflective acoustic fence with 20mm thick boards, offering the same anti-climb profile and a cost-effective noise barrier solution for situations where a lower level of noise reduction is acceptable, in applications subject to low to moderate wind loads. JAKOUSTIC® ACOUSTIC FENCING PROVIDES PEACE AND QUIET FOR RESIDENTS ON BUSY MAIN ROAD

Back in the early 1970s, Stone Street in Kent was a relatively quiet country lane. Over time, the road has got busier, with cars travelling at speeds exceeding 50 miles per hour. Traffic noise has become a real annoyance for some of the residents, who can no longer enjoy a comfortable conversation in their gardens above the disturbance from the road.

Does acoustic garden fencing work?

Yes, acoustic garden fencing does work. Jakoustic® fencing has been installed in gardens since 2004, with many satisfied customers. Because sound behaviour is complex and site specific, we recommend consulting an independent sound engineer to ensure the best possible results before installation. Read more about how acoustic fencing works in our blog.

How many decibels does a fence reduce?

Our reflective acoustic fencing will reduce sound levels by up to 28 decibels based on laboratory testing. It will reduce excess noise pollution such as road noise, nearby transport infrastructure, schools, and industrial.
Our absorptive acoustic fencing, which is more commonly used in non-domestic settings, can reduce noise by up to 32 decibels based on laboratory testing.

How does a fence reduce decibel levels?

A decibel reducing fence panel will either reflect or absorb noise waves.

Reflective noise reduction fencing creates a barrier that will reflect noise waves away.

Absorptive noise reduction fencing has a membrane that the noise waves hit, which then dissipate into the panel.

Do acoustic garden fences require planning permission?

In most cases, no, acoustic garden fences follow standard fencing rules. However, planning permission is required if the fence is over 2 m high, or over 1 m when placed next to a road or footpath, so checking with your local authority is always advised.
Read more about if you need planning permission for an acoustic fence in our blog.

Do acoustic garden fences need specialist installation?

Acoustic fencing is installed differently from standard fences, so professional installation is recommended to ensure maximum noise reduction. DIY installation is possible, but it’s essential to follow the instructions carefully and avoid any gaps, as correct fitting is key to performance. Read more in our blog on the importance of installing acoustic fencing correctly.

Can a normal fence panel reduce decibel levels?

A solid, heavy duty fence with tightly interlocking boards can help reduce some noise, especially if there are no gaps. Thick timber panels can disrupt sound waves and perform better than lightweight fencing. However, their noise reduction is limited. Purpose built acoustic fencing is more effective, as it is specifically designed to significantly reduce decibel levels rather than just provide a modest improvement.

The Importance of Installing Acoustic Fencing Correctly

Acoustic fencing is highly effective at reducing noise from traffic and neighbours, helping create a quieter outdoor space. However, it will only perform properly if it’s the right solution and installed correctly, which is why using a trained Approved Installer is recommended.
