Russell Barnes from London sent me a photo of this beautiful, compact garden in Chelsea, which is owned by Russell and his wife Esti, an award winning rug designer.  It measures only 12 x 6 m, but as you can see their quest to have a private and peaceful space for relaxing and entertaining in has been thoroughly successful.

“Esti and I own the contemporary flooring business Top Floor and we are really passionate about good design. We have spent the last couple of years fully refurbishing our house and this is the first house we have owned that has a garden, so we wanted to make a really good job of it!

We knew we would spend loads of time in the garden from sunny summer breakfasts to late autumn nightcaps, so it was to be as much an indoor as an outdoor space. The Venetian fence panels had just the right clean contemporary lines to define our small garden without making it feel cramped or too rustic, and we love the way the colour of the timber has mellowed.

The fence panels’ horizontal slats allow in light as well as affording privacy.  They also make great supports for scented climbers like the jasmines we now have twining in the panels.

I should also say that the installation team from All About Fencing, who are Jacksons Expert Installers, were probably the most professional guys we met throughout the entire two year house refurbishment process.”
