How can fencing improve your gardening?
Fencing can be a surprisingly powerful tool for improving gardening, both practically and aesthetically. Here’s how it can help:
Practical Benefits
-
Pest Control
a. Protects from animals: Keeps out rabbits, deer, badgers, and other wildlife that eat plants.
b. Barrier for pets: Stops dogs or cats from trampling your plants or using the garden as a toilet. -
Microclimate Creation
a. Solid fencing like timber or acoustic panels can block wind, retain warmth, and even reduce frost risk, helping plants thrive.
b. Helps support more delicate or exotic plants that wouldn't usually cope with UK weather. -
Support for Climbing Plants
a. Trellis panels or slatted fencing can act as a framework for climbers like clematis, roses, or sweet peas, maximising space vertically. -
Soil & Mulch Retention
a. Low fencing, sleepers/landscape timbers, or edging can help retain raised beds, keeping soil in place and making maintenance easier. -
Zoning & Structure
a. Create sections within your garden – a vegetable patch, wildflower area, or kids’ play space – using fencing to give a neat, organised feel. -
Privacy & Tranquillity
a. Fencing, especially acoustic or solid fence panels, helps create a peaceful space by blocking out noise and prying eyes.
Keep sustainability in mind
Disrupting your plants by having to remove rotting fence panels could be very detrimental; that’s why it’s important to invest in quality to ensure long term plant satisfaction.
All our timber is from sustainable, well managed forests, and is vacuum pressure treated for longevity. Our unique Jakcure® timber treatment process allows us to confidently guarantee our fence panels for 25 years.

Wildlife-friendly fencing
Your garden should encourage local wildlife to thrive. Opting for more wildlife friendly options is easier than you think.
Adding a hedgehog highway with a hedgehog friendly gravel board, letting parts of your garden grow wild and encouraging birds will, in turn, increase your natural pest control, so your crops can be better protected.
