Creating a secure and attractive entrance for a shared driveway or parking area can be challenging, especially when the space needs to provide reliable access for multiple households throughout the day. This recent customer project demonstrates how carefully designed metal driveway gates, automation, and coordinated pedestrian access can work together to provide long lasting security, smooth functionality, and a refined appearance that enhances the entire property. With eleven homes relying on this shared entrance, the installation needed to balance aesthetics, practicality, and durability, while also accommodating varied access requirements and professional security features.
The homeowners approached us with a clear brief. They needed a robust double leaf driveway gate that would secure the main entrance, provide controlled access for residents, and maintain a consistent visual style suitable for a prestigious estate. The main driveway gate needed to be both imposing and elegant, offering a strong first impression while protecting the privacy and safety of the residents. The solution also had to include a separate pedestrian gate with its own controlled entry and exit options. Alongside this, three small metal fence panels were required to close the remaining gaps and complete the boundary line.
From the outset, the project called for a high level of precision and coordination. The client completed their own ground finishing, but we worked closely with them to ensure all surface preparations were perfectly aligned with the installation requirements.
A Feature Entrance with an Ornamental Swing Gate
At the heart of the project is a striking double leaf metal driveway gate, built to an impressive 2.6 metres high and 4.5 metres wide. The gate features an elegant arched top, which adds height and presence, and immediately sets the tone for the property. To guarantee long-term reliability, the gate was base plated to the pre-prepared bases cast by Jacksons, ensuring a secure, stable installation.

This gate was automated using high quality rams, chosen for their strength, reliable motion and suitability for swing gate operation in a shared access setting. The residents needed to enter and exit throughout the day without manual intervention, so the system was configured for effortless daytime use via ground loops set on a timer. These loops detect approaching vehicles and provide quick, handsfree access, keeping traffic flowing smoothly and avoiding unnecessary delays for the eleven households.

After hours, access needed to be restricted to residents and authorised visitors only. To achieve this, the main gate is connected to an intercom system wired to all eleven properties. This setup allows residents to manage entry for their visitors securely, using a familiar and dependable system that suits the shared nature of the site.
For emergency access, a fireman’s key switch was fitted. This is an essential feature for any gate on a communal road or shared driveway and ensures emergency services can gain immediate entry when required.
A Coordinated Pedestrian Access Point
Alongside the main driveway gate, the project also required a dedicated pedestrian entrance. This helps residents move in and out of the property on foot without needing to operate the main gate, improving convenience and safety, and reducing unnecessary gate cycles.
A single ornamental swing gate, standing 2m high and 1.34m wide, was installed for this purpose. It was fitted with a robust magnetic lock and a self closer, ensuring the gate always closes securely behind users. Entry is controlled via an intercom, maintaining the same level of security as the vehicle access system. Exit is provided by a push button set back 2m from the gate, preventing accidental or unauthorised activation from the outside, while still offering easy usability.

The pedestrian gate also matches the style of the main driveway gate, ensuring a unified and professional appearance across the entire frontage.

Style A Ornamental Railings
Both the vehicle and pedestrian gates were manufactured in our Style A ornamental design, which is the most secure of the ornamental options. Unlike some decorative styles, Style A does not include rings within the framework. Instead, it features two rows of finials that create a traditional, high quality appearance while actively deterring climbing attempts.
This makes it ideally suited to shared access properties where the entrance needs to look impressive and welcoming while still offering excellent security. The combination of finials, height, and welded pale-through-rail construction helps provide residents with peace of mind, knowing their shared boundary is protected by a premium metal gate system.
The metal gates and panels were galvanised and powder coated black. This dual treatment provides exceptional corrosion resistance, a smart, uniform finish and extremely low ongoing maintenance requirements. To reinforce our commitment to quality, the entire installation is covered by our 25 year guarantee.

Completing the Boundary with Bespoke Fence Panels
To finish the project, we supplied and installed three small metal fence panels to match the gate, each cut to size to fill the gaps on either side of the main gate and pedestrian gate. Customising these panels allowed for a perfect fit and ensured the boundary line remained secure, visually consistent and free from weak points.

A Long Lasting Solution for a Busy Shared Entrance
This project showcases how carefully selected metal driveway gates, combined with automation and coordinated pedestrian access, can transform a shared entrance into a secure, efficient, and visually impressive feature. The finished installation blends strength and sophistication, providing reliable access control that suits the daily needs of eleven households.
