Whether it’s traffic, neighbours, or other external sources, properly installed acoustic fencing can transform outdoor spaces by creating a quieter, more comfortable environment.
However, it’s important to understand that even the highest quality acoustic fencing will only perform at its best if it is the correct solution and installed correctly.
Why Installation Matters
Acoustic fencing works by reflecting and diffusing sound waves, preventing them from passing throughthe fence. The integrity of the barrier is key, any gaps, poor alignment, or incorrect fixings can compromise its acoustic performance. Even a small gap between boards or beneath the fence line can allow sound to leak through, significantly reducing its effectiveness.
That’s why at Jacksons Fencing, our Jakoustic® range is designed to achieve certified noise reduction levels when installed according to our specifications. Our testing and certification are based on properly fitted systems, ensuring that the performance you expect in the field matches the results achieved in laboratory conditions.

Types of Acoustic Fencing for Residential Settings
Noise issues vary depending on the environment, and so do the solutions. Jacksons offers several types of Jakoustic® acoustic fencing suitable for residential use:
Jakoustic® Reflective: Designed to reflect noise away from its source, this is ideal for boundary fencing alongside roads, railways, or other consistent noise sources.

12K Envirofence: functions similarly to Jakoustic Reflective by deflecting noise; however, it uses lighter boards This makes it more cost effective but will lower the noise reduction.

Jakoustic® Absorptive: Incorporates an absorptive layer on one side to reduce sound reflection. This is particularly useful where there are reflective surfaces opposite the fence, such as walls or buildings. An absorptive barrier, due to its special membrane that absorbs noise, does not have as high visual appeal as a reflective barrier. But generally, absorptive acoustic barriers in residential applications are installed around compounds for air source heat pumps or air con units, so the absorptive side will not be seen.

Each system is precision engineered and designed to meet strict acoustic performance standards. However, they only achieve these results when installed with care and accuracy.
Planning for acoustic fencing
The planning of an acoustic fence is just as critical as its installation. We strongly recommend consulting a qualified acoustic engineer to assess the expected noise reduction and ensure the fence is positioned correctly. Poor placement can unintentionally amplify noise by causing sound to reflect and concentrate within the area the fence is meant to quieten.
Installing acoustic fencing
Acoustic reflective fencing is installed using 4.2 metre long, interlocking timber boards that slot together in a tongue and groove style configuration. This interlocking system ensures a tight fit between boards, eliminating gaps that could allow sound to pass through. The boards are fixed to timber or steel posts, depending on the application and overall height of the fence, using specially designed interlocking screws that securely clamp the boards together while maintaining the acoustic integrity of the structure. The result is a seamless, robust panel that delivers consistent sound reduction across the entire fence line.
Innovative Design to Prevent Gaps and Shrinkage
One of the challenges with timber fencing is natural shrinkage over time, which can create gaps that reduce acoustic performance. Our vacuum pressure treated wooden boards have a deep unique V shape, which allows the boards to interlock. At the top of each board there is a square piece which helps to eliminate gaps that may occur, with the natural movement of timber throughout its life.

This engineered profile allows the boards to expand and contract with changes in moisture without creating visible gaps. The square top design ensures a tight, consistent fit across the fence line, maintaining its integrity and appearance even as the timber naturally seasons. This thoughtful design detail is part of what makes Jakoustic fencing so effective and long lasting.
The Role of Approved Installers
To ensure your fence performs as intended, we strongly recommend using a Jacksons Approved Installer. These professionals are trained and experienced in fitting our products to the correct specifications. They understand the importance of alignment, fixing methods, and ground preparation, ensuring the system remains both acoustically effective and structurally sound.
Long Term Performance and Peace of Mind
Every Jacksons acoustic fence is built from premium Jakcure® pressure treated timber and backed by our 25 year guarantee, ensuring durability and resistance against rot and insect attack. When installed correctly, you can expect exceptional acoustic performance for decades to come. Acoustic fencing is a proven solution for reducing noise and enhancing outdoor environments, but installation is everything. Choosing the right product for your setting, paired with professional installation by Jacksons Approved Installers, ensures the system performs exactly as designed. With innovations like the tuning fork posts and our commitment to quality craftsmanship, you can trust Jacksons Fencing to deliver peace, privacy, and performance that lasts.
