At Chippenham Golf Course, safety and appearance are equally important.
When one of the tees was identified as being at risk from incoming golf balls, the club worked with Dan Davies Landscaping to create a solution that would provide reliable protection without compromising the natural beauty of the course.

The Horizontal Hit and Miss fence panels were chosen for their stylish yet practical design, offering strength and durability while blending in with the surrounding landscape. The semi-solid design still allows air to pass through, reducing strain on posts in windy areas, while still providing shelter either side of the fence. The substantial wooden pales that make up the fence panel make the panels strong, which helps to keep the panels strong when golf balls are accidentally hit against the panel.

The landscaping company chose our wooden slotted Jakposts® to not only provide a cohesive visual appearance, but also help secure the fence panels firmly in place. The slotted design firmly locks fence panels in place, unlike concrete posts to which panels can’t be secured and often rattle; a distraction you definitely don’t want when lining up your golf shot.

To further enhance the natural look, additional planting was introduced along the fence line. A mix of pleached trees and shrubs has been positioned to soften the structure and add more coverage as the trees grow. Planting helps to provide an even greater sense of integration with the course.
Golf is a prestigious sport, and great pride is taken to ensure courses are always well kept and presented. Selecting premium fence panels was the only option to meet both practical and aesthetic needs. The result is a discreet boundary solution that not only provides safety and performs as intended effectively, but also complements the beauty of the golf course environment. By combining effective protection with sensitive landscaping, the fencing solution ensures that players remain safe and the course retains its welcoming, green appearance.

What Golf Courses Should Look for in Fencing
When selecting fencing, golf courses need to balance practicality with presentation. Metal fencing may offer strength and security, but it can often appear harsh and out of place in a natural setting. Metal fencing should be used to secure the boundaries and prevent unauthorised entry. Timber fencing, by contrast, provides a warmer, softer appearance that blends seamlessly into the landscape while still offering strength and durability. Choosing premium timber fence panels, especially those with a long guarantee, ensures safety, longevity, and an aesthetic that reflects the prestige of the sport.
