What is the difference between our garden gates and our garden gate sets?
Our garden gate sets include the posts needed for installation, which means everything arrives together as a complete solution. The gates themselves are the same as our standard garden gates and come fitted with adjustable hinges, a ring latch and all required fixings.
What if I need alternative posts or wall plates instead of the posts supplied?
We understand that the standard posts included in our garden gate sets will not suit every installation. If you need different posts or wall plates, simply visit our garden gates page and select the gate you want, then choose the posts or wall plates that meet your requirements. All our garden gates are supplied with adjustable hinges and a ring latch already fitted, so you can pair them with whichever supporting components you need.
What if I need a different size gate that is not included in one of your kits?
We offer a wider range of heights and widths across all our garden gate designs. If you need a different size, simply visit our garden gate page, choose the gate that meets your required dimensions, and then select the posts or wall plates you need to go with it.
Are garden gates a standard size?
As you would expect, the size of garden gate that you will need will vary depending on whether you’re planning on using existing posts, starting anew or moving posts. If you’re unsure of where to start with this, read our guide to learn more about how to measure for your garden gate.
Are the posts treated for ground contact and long term durability?
Yes. All our posts are Jakcure treated for complete ground contact protection and come with our twenty five year Jakcure guarantee. Our treatment process has been proven since 1947 and provides long lasting defence against rot and insect attack.
How do I choose a garden gate?
When buying a garden gate there are several things to consider: namely, where you’re going to place it and what side it needs to hang from. These factors will naturally impact the size, design and material that you choose as you will likely want a more elaborate design for a gate if it’s visible from the front of your property, or likewise you might prefer a taller, more heavy-duty gate for greater privacy via a side access door.
If you’re planning on installing new posts for your gate you should also first check which side you want it to hang from and consider whether you will need to take into account a wall or existing fencing.
How much space should be between a post and gate?
You should leave a 10mm space between each of the posts and the gate.
Should a garden gate open in or out?
If the gate is on your property, it can open either inwards or outwards. If the gate borders a path or highway, it must open inwards because it should move into your private space rather than out into the public right of way.
Opening inwards is the most common choice and all our garden gates are supplied to open this way as standard. If you need the hinges on the outside so the gate can open outwards, please call us and we will be happy to help.
