Using Wooden Gravel Boards
At Jacksons Fencing we recommend protecting your fence panels by using gravel boards for any fencing you buy. Used to help protect the fencing by adding more height, wooden gravel boards are a great tool often used to keep your fence panels away from the moisture in the ground.
Using a gravel board will increase the level of protection the fence panel receives, add a stylish finish and improve its lifespan by helping it to avoid common elements which can attack the timber, weakening it over time - saving you more time, money and resource.
Our gravel boards are not only for aesthetic purposes, for example we only use a specific type of timber which is pressure treated on-site by our expert staff to help improve the lifespan of the timber. We pressure treat them because if untreated timber is exposed to long periods of time with moisture in the ground it begins to decay over time due to insect attack and constant weathering, becoming weaker and less resilient to the elements. If untreated fence panels could need replacing.
At Jacksons our wooden gravel boards are a low cost recommendation which when compared to replacing the fencing materials and will help maintain the longevity of your fence panels.
Jacksons supply two types of gravel board
The first is for use with Jakposts (667600). This gravel board includes two spacer blocks stopping any movement once installed into the slotted posts. These spacer blocks can also be purchased separately if spares are needed (667601). We also supply a hedgehog friendly version of this gravel board (667610).
To increase the height of the fence the gravel boards should be held together with a peg 600x50x50mm (644400). To prevent them distorting this should be placed centrally driven into the ground & the gravel boards screwed to it.
The second option we supply is a 2.40 150x25mm gravel board (230700) , usually used with traditional fencing such as traditional Featherboard fencing. This gravel board does not work with our Jakpost system.
Please note that gravel boards need to be used when panels are in contact with the ground as part the 25 year Jakcure guarantee conditions - more detail can be found on our Jakcure T&C's page
