Slotted Heavy Duty Fence Posts
Our heavy duty slotted fence posts are built for strength, stability, and flexibility across a wide range of fencing projects. Fully compatible with our complete panel range, they provide a robust solution when standard posts are not enough. Ideal for exposed or wind prone areas, softer ground, installations on slopes, taller fences, or more demanding installations, our heavy duty slotted posts deliver reliable support without compromising on ease of use.
Designed with versatility in mind, heavy duty slotted posts offer the strength needed for larger runs while still allowing for clean, straightforward panel installation. Longer lengths are perfect for combining full height panels with trellis toppers or for managing level changes on sloped ground. For solid fencing above 2.4m, acoustic spur posts can be incorporated to provide additional reinforcement where required.
Heavy Duty Fence Post Specification
Heavy Duty Jakposts are 120mm x 124mm nominal section, planed finish with two 54mm x 25mm slots for fence panels. Slot allows clearance on our 50/51mm wide panel framing.
Our heavy duty slotted corner posts also include a Timber Retaining Strip rather than a corner bracket to hold the panel in position.
Where possible, avoid cutting, drilling, or notching any timber that will be in ground, as per our 25 year Jakcure® terms and conditions. If occasional sections do have to be cut then Cut Treatment should be applied liberally.
Why would I use a heavy duty slotted post over a standard slotted post?
- Heavy duty posts should be used if the fence is over 2 metres in height.
- If the fence is going to be installed where there is possibility of strong winds.
- If the fence is going to be steeply stepped up a hill, heavy duty posts should be used.
- Ground conditions should also be taken into consideration. Soft and marshy ground is another reason for heavy duty posts.
For more detailed reasoning on when to use Heavy Duty Fence posts read our blog:
Advantages of using timber slotted posts over square posts or concrete posts:
- Slotted posts (Jakposts) reduce damage caused by wind movement when panels are screwed to posts.
- Fence panels slot easily into position when the posts have been installed.
- No more frost damaged cracked or chipped concrete posts
- Easy to carry; lighter than concrete posts
- Environmentally friendly
- More supportive than square section posts
- Easier to erect than concrete posts
- 25 year guarantee against rot and insect attack
We recommend that all posts should be set in concrete and a minimum of 0.6m into the ground. Download Post Installation Instructions.
We also recommend all posts should be installed using Postcrete. Note: Postcrete, we recommend a minimum of 60kg (3 x 20kg Bags) per post, please use code 648070
We recommend using 6 screws per panel or 12 per panel if using capping rails.
60mm Screws, Self-Drilling Countersunk Stainless Steel are available in pack of 100 or 200 to secure panels to posts, see codes:
809900 for pack 200 Torx head
809911 for pack 100 Torx head
The table below can be used as a rough guide to work out what post length you require. We recommend that posts are installed 600mm in the ground. Please note that this is based on a typical installation. If you are between sizes or unsure which to go for, please call us; our team is very knowledgeable and can advise you on the best type and size posts for your installation.
*to calculate your fence height, add height of fence panel, trellis panels if using, and gravel boards if using. Round up to nearest height.
